Health and Safety

Both for its employees and its outsourced labor force, CTEEP adopts strict measures to ensure the safety of its professionals, including training, mandatory use of individual protection equipment, and the inclusion of a contractual clause specifying compliance with health and safety legislation. In addition to regular compulsory checkups, CTEEP also invests in other health and safety activities, aiming for the physical and emotional wellbeing of its professionals. In 2008, the following programs were carried out: GRI LA8
- Workplace Environmental Risk Prevention Program (PPRA)
- Workplace Ergonomics Analysis Program (PAET)
- Occupational Health Medical Control Program (PCMSO)
- Occupational Dental Health Program (PRODOC), involving monitoring and promotion of oral health
- Quality of Life Program (PROQV), involving the following projects: Promotion of Health and Safety through Corporate Media; Workplace Warm-up Exercises; Monitoring, Prevention and Control of Chronic Disease; Women’s Health; Men’s Health; and Preventing Circulatory Disease.
In order to encourage the analysis and discussion of issues related to workplace health and safety, a commission was established with equal representation from the company and trade unions. The company also has a regressive salary top-up system, applicable in cases of absence from work for more than 15 days for reasons of illness, whether work-related or not. GRI LA9
CTEEP also encourages employee participation in formal health and safety committees, which provide monitoring and advice regarding workplace health and safety programs. In 2008, 158 regular monthly meetings and 156 monthly general meetings were held by the Internal Accident Prevention Commissions (CIPA). Of the company’s 1,300 employees, 13.1% are directly involved with issues of preventive workplace health and safety. GRI LA6

The statistical indicators monitored by the company in relation to workplace accidents (work and travel-related) are expressed in terms of the Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) and Accident Seriousness Rate (ASR), calculated as follows and summarized in the table below:
Accident Frequency Rate = number of accidents x K factor
total hours worked
Accident Seriousness Rate = (days lost + days deducted due to death or incapacity) x K factor
total hours worked
