In 2008, the company reused 2 million liters of mineral insulating oil used in transformers.

CTEEP has adopted a series of measures which contributed, in 2008, to a reduction of 872 MW/h in energy consumption and 1,420 m3 in water consumption in relation to 2007, in 20 substations with ISO 14001 certification. These measures include: GRI EN5

  • Raising awareness of employees and outsourced service providers at substations;
  • Installing fluorescent lamps and starters with greater energy efficiency and lower consumption;
  • Reforming electrical systems to provide better distribution of areas to be illuminated;
  • Installing motion sensors;
  • Installing more efficient photocell relays, to turn lights on and off automatically at sundown and sunrise.

In 2008, total water consumption at the 20 certified substations was 11,349 m3, fully sourced from municipal water supply networks, and energy consumption was 8,155 MW/h. GRI EN8

Other highlights in the environmental area were:

  • Adoption of environmental indicators for follow-up under the management system;
  • Development of environmental indicators consistent with ISO 14031;
  • Commencement of a study for compensation for CO2 emissions from CTEEP vehicles;
  • Participation, for the second time, in the Global Greenhouse Gas Register (GHG) questionnaire;
  • Elaboration of over thirteen viability studies for services for the maintenance, repair and construction of the company’s transmission grid.
  • Implementation of an early firefighting system. The adoption of this pilot project in the Oeste substation allowed the collection of 214 m3 of recycled water in 2008. GRI EN10
