The modernization and technological upgrading was completed for the synchronous compensator at the Santo Angelo substation, a vital piece of equipment for controlling the grid voltage both for CTEEP and the Brazilian interconnected system. A modern system was also incorporated for monitoring the main operating parameters, which will optimize planned outages for preventive maintenance.

During 2008, 46 electromechanical protective relays in 16 substations were replaced by modern digital relays, including oscillographic features (for recording oscillating movements) and greater reliability, allowing better analysis of disruptions.
